Before all the votes are counted, I’m calling my shot. I think Democrats will retake the House and the Senate, and Kansas will elect a Democratic Senator for the first time since before World War II.*
*Or not.
Election predictions are a funny thing. I’ve seen so many make them, and I’ve seen so many turn out to be wrong. Myself included.
It’s with that humility, knowing that I could be wrong, that I joined a friend and a former Acting Chief of Staff for President Trump, Mick Mulvaney, as he launched his podcast to make a few predictions. It launched on Sunday and we certainly had some different takes.
What was clear: Democrats are watching Texas tonight, Republicans are watching Michigan. And it could be that we won’t truly know the outcome of many races, including California’s ballot initiatives, for weeks.
That said I do expect some clarity tonight and will certainly be keeping track of my predictions.
Given a lot of what we’ll be focused on in the weeks ahead will be clearer in the next day or so, I’m sharing my early predictions from this weekend (recorded ahead of Sunday’s surreal endorsement news in Michigan) and I will be back later this week with another, longer post about what I think the election results mean for what’s ahead.
Until then, VOTE!! And let all the ballots be counted.
